We believe Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre ripen ideally under growing conditions that provide an abundance of sun exposure without excessively high heat. The vines that grow the fruit for Zephyr are situated at 1800 feet above sea level at the very top of the vineyard and well above the fog line. Planted in volcanic soils and located in our inherently rugged terrain these vines also produce unusually small berries, especially for these three varieties, which results in concentrated, fruit-driven expressions of this classic blend. Zephyr, our homage to the wines of the Southern Rhône, is aged in neutral French oak barrels, allowing the delicate red fruit of the Grenache and Mourvèdre to share the spotlight. This medium to full bodied wine can be enjoyed upon release or watch it evolve over the next 8-10 years.
