The grapes destined for this wine were sourced from Audelssa’s own Mountain Terraces Vineyard, located on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder at elevations ranging from 600 to 1800 feet above sea level. The variety of volcanic soils combined with southwestern exposure result in extraordinary growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is all about texture, silky and supple, with uncommon purity and depth. It is unquestionably the most seductive Cab Reserve that we have released to date.Enjoy this wine now, or watch it develop over the next 12-15 years.

Built to last 12-15 years yet friendly enough to enjoy in its youth, it is unquestionably the highest quality vintage of this wine that we have released to date. Notes of red and dark cherries, mocha and creamy French oak are complemented by silky, refined tannins. This wine exhibits a balance of elegance and power uncommon in California Cabernets.

Tempest is our homage to the wines of Côte-Rôtie, the northern-most appellation of the Rhône Valley in France. We use the traditional and time honored practice of co-fermenting the Syrah with 5% Viognier because, in our opinion, this produces a more balanced style than any other expression of Syrah. The perfumed aromatics and glycerol texture of the Viognier help tame and refine the earth, spice and wild game characteristics native to Syrah. The result? A blockbuster wine of depth and power cloaked with remarkable grace and finesse. The signature of Audelssa wines.

We believe Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre ripen ideally under growing conditions that provide an abundance of sun exposure without excessively high heat. Our Mountain Terraces Vineyard is one of the unique sites in California that can meet these criteria. The vines that grow the fruit for Zephyr are situated at 1800 feet above sea level at the very top of the vineyard and well above the fog line. Planted in volcanic soils and located in our inherently rugged terrain these vines also produce unusually small berries, especially for these three varieties, which results in concentrated, fruit-driven expressions of this classic blend. Zephyr, our homage to the wines of the Southern Rhône, is aged in neutral French oak barrels, allowing the delicate red fruit of the Grenache and Mourvèdre to share the spotlight. This medium to full bodied wine can be enjoyed upon release or watch it evolve over the next 8-10 years.

Make no mistake, we respect the intellectual exercise of producing varietal wines, but we believe that oftentimes blends are more enjoyable.  As far as we are concerned, that is the case with our 2007 Summit.  This classic combination of Bordeaux varietals rises to a level of complexity that none of the parts could achieve individually.  Structure and power come from the Cabernet Sauvignon component, femininity and elegance from the Merlot, aromatic complexity and additional structure from the Cabernet Franc and juiciness and color from the Malbec.

We are very excited to introduce our second vintage of Tephra. Our goal with the Tephra program is to provide Audelssa loyalists with a wine that is priced for everyday consumption without sacrificing any of the quality or personality that people have come to expect from our wines.

Something new, something different.  Up until this Release, Merlot has been relegated to a supporting role in Audelssas lineup of wines.  Back in 2006 we sourced some Merlot from the Alder Springs Vineyard in Northern Mendocino County to help build Audelssa’s Summit program.  When the time came to put the 2006 Summit blend together last year, it was obvious to us that we had something special on our hands so we held back five barrels for this special bottling.  It is dominated by sweet violets and an earthy, savage character on the nose with a seamless texture oozing layers of dark fruit and cocoa in the mouth.
